$350,015 - Purchased as a yearling for $700 at Saratoga yearling sale. Died in 1963, age 24. Inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1976.
In his first season Alsab set a record for 2-year-old colts and geldings by winning 15 races, 10 of them consecutive stakes including the Washington Park Futurity, the Mayflower and the Champagne Stakes, & a match with his closest rival, Requested.
At 3 Alsab won the Preakness, Withers, American Derby, Lawrence Realization, and the New York Handicap. A seasonal highlight was Alsab\'s photo finish in a 1 3/16 mile match race against older champion Whirlaway at Narragansett Park.
Alsab was named Champion Colt in 1941 and 1942.
Alsab\'s unusual name came from combining the initial syllables of his owner\'s first and last names (Albert Sabath).
