Appendix QH
This horse was originally used as a ranch horse and a stallion by Claude Collins, Sterling City, Texas, and was sold at age 12 to the Spade Ranch, Colorado City, Texas where he was used as a stallion for the rest of his life. The Spade Ranch got him registered with the AQHA in the 1950\\\\\\\'s. Although his pedigree is solidly Quarter Horse breeding and he had a full brother, Kiowa, with regular AQHA papers, Ellwood Charger received AQHA Appendix papers since the AQHA inspector, in those days when bulldog horses were preferred, thought that this horse showed too much Thoroughbred breeding in his conformation. He was a modern Quarter Horse before his time. Few of his get were ever registered and, of those, only a few were ever shown. The people who owned this horse were ranchers and prized his get as excellent ranch horses. They were seldom ever sold until they were worn out. He was the sire of one AQHA Champion Mare named Karen Girl who was trained and shown by one of the early pioneers of the AQHA: Ralph Acord - C.L. Collins
