Bred by Sherrif Houston, Orange County, N.Y. Owned by Edwin Thorne, Thorndale, Doutchess County, N.Y. He was a rich blood bay with black points and two withe beels behind.(Mr. Thorne said in 1864). Wallace's American Stud-Book [1867], vol. 1, p.963. Died Glendale, Hamilton co. Ohio, Dec. 1880 Record 2:36. Also note in Wallace's ATR, 1874, Vol.2, p. 229. From April to August 1866 he was Newbourgh Stud Farm of Capt. Leander Clark, Orange County, N.Y. Made the race seasons 1871-1873 in Kentucky.
One of the oldest sons of VOLUNTEER 55. He was a horse of great beauty and style- one of the finest in form in the HAMBLETONIAN family. He has spend sereval years in Kentucky, and has been regarded as a fine horse. He is the sire of a mare [BETTY HAMLET,*~1865, o.o. MEMBRETTA, by MAMBRINO CHIEF 11] that was said to have trotted in 2:25 - not a record. (Book: American Roadsters and Trotting Horses, by H. T.
