Endurance horse
The above photo shows AERC Hall of Fame rider Pat Fitzgerald riding Circle H Caballero as he shepherded a group of youngsters through the 1978 Virginia City 100 Mile One-Day Ride. (Fitzgerald did that quite of often.)
The next year, Caballero was second in the 1979 AERC National Heavyweight Division (carried weight 160 pounds or more). He was also the National Mileage Champion that year (1,700 miles in 26 completed rides, all of them 50 miles one-day or more, and 7 of them 100 miles one-day or more). All of those numbers broke previous records. Likewise, his records were broken as the years rolled by. He only failed to complete one ride out of 27 in 1979. The 26 rides he finished were held in Nevada, California, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, and Utah. He was big and handsome. His nickname was 'TBH' (The Black Horse).
