An extremely popular campaigner of the Gay Nineties, Imp was popularly known as the Coal Black Lady. Bred and raced by Daniel R. Harness of Chillicothe, Ohio, she was sold to John E. Madden at the end of her turf career. She died in 1909 and was buried at Hamburg Place, Lexington, Kentucky.
