Died on the Palo Huerco ranch about 1910-1912.
After racing was used as racehorse & ranch stallion by Chris Seale, in Baird, TX. Then passed through several hands and finally became the main stallion on the Shely Ranch, Alfred, TX.
In addition to other foals, three of note came from a mare that pulled an ice wagon for her owner Tump Pace. Later, Seale called the mare Fanny Pace in Tumps honor. Believed to be a daughter of Gulliver, who was by Missouri Rondo, Fanny Pace did nothing of note until Seale started breeding her to Traveler, while Traveler was still at Baird. Then, her three sons by Traveler made her famous.
The first was Judge Thomas (1897); the second colt was named Judge Welch (1898) in honor apparently, of a bartender at Seays Baird Hotel.
Fanny Pace`s third Traveler colt, known to the Seale family as Jack Tolliver (1903), was to become internationally renown. Jack Tolliver`s name was eventually changed to Buster Brown and he was shipped to Virginia and became a brilliant polo pony.
Fanny Pace died while this foal [Buster Brown] was young and he was raised as an orphan in his own small pasture and barn.
Some of Traveler`s foals included: Chulo Mundo; John Gardner; Three Finger Jack; Bulger; Little Joe; Possum (aka King & King Cardwell); Texas Chief; Captain Joe; El Rey; and the great steer roping gelding Skunk.
A two-page article about Traveler in the Jan/Feb 2004 AQHA Americas Horse and also a detailed life account of Traveler in Western Horseman Quarter Horse Legends, volume 2 which also says he was a light sorrel with a suggestion of roan coloring on his flanks.
