According to documentation acquired by Debera Shields,
Zella (Zela) was owned by Wendell Robie (founder of the WSTR).
In an interview with Marion Robie Arnold (Wendell Robies granddaughter)who grew up with Zella (correct spelling) and knew Sidra, confirmed Sidra was out of Zella and Betty had possession of Zella for a few years. Marion also confirmed that her grandfather was adamant that Zella was registered and a direct decendent of Man O War. Partial records of Betty Veals early Appaloosa breeding program
includes Zella who was on her Toyon ranch located in Auburn, CA for a at least 3 years. In addition to the above and an interview with Betty Veal prior to her death stating the same and that she had borrowed Zella from her long time friend Wendell Robie, it is safe to say per Pat Mefferd, the ZELLA she researched in the American Stud Book volume 20,
on page 483 is the dam of Sidra which reads:
ZELLA, bay mare foaled 1948 by BIG V. out of HUMBER (Chestnut, 1934)by FAIR BALL.
Bred by W.J. Slattery & L.J. Hamilton, both of Lakeport, Ca. end.
Zella carried double lines of Fair Play through his sons Man O War and Fair Ball.
