JAMIL EL KEBIR C, ARABIAN, 1870
| Color: ch
Imported to Egypt circa 1880 by Prince Ahmad Pasha Kamal, Egypt. A Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of Ibn Zubayni of the Mhayd section of the FidŽan tribe, imported c1880 to Egypt. [Also called Gamil El Kebir or Jamil El Ashkar El Kebir]
NOTES: The above information (except for the dates, which are Al Khamsa estimates) is from the RAS History and the 1932 certified pedigree for *Bint Saada and the journals of Lady Anne Blunt. The RAS History refers to this horse as \\\\\\\\Gamil El Kebir, chestnut from Arabia.\\\\\\\\ Lady Anne Blunt in her 1904 Sheykh Obeyd catalog under Noma describes Jamil El Kebir not by name, but as \\\\\\\\the Chestnut Seglawi Jedran brought direct from Ibn Sbeyni to Prince Ahmed Pasha.\\\\\\\\ Lady Anne calls this horse \\\\\\\\the old chestnut Ibn Sbeyni Seglawi...\\\\\\\\ [J&C 4.11.1891].
According to Judith Forbis [Classic, pp195-6], Jamil El Kebir was from Ibn Zubayni of the Mhayd FidŽan and was imported to Egypt for Prince Ahmad Pasha Kamal. More recent information [EAD, 2005] describes Ibn Zubayni as a member of the Shumaylat, related to the Mhayd section of the FidŽan tribe.
Raswan Index entries #4292, #4293 and #4294-perhaps because of incomplete nomenclature-confuse this horse with Saklawi I (APS) and Jamil (APS). Jamil El KebirŽs son, Jamil El Ahmar (APK) was a mature stallion when seen by Lady Anne Blunt in 1889. Jamil (APS) was not foaled until 1896, and Saklawi I (APS) was a grey said to have been foaled in 1886, so neither stallion could have had mature progeny in 1889.
