Finnhorse Tt 640
Breeder: Otto Chorin, Alahärmä, Finland. Owned by Erkki Hakola, Alahärmä; baronet Standertskjöld; Earl de la Chapelle, Mäntsälä; Laihian Hevosystäväinseura, Laihia; Alavuden Hevosystäväinseura, Alavus; Turun Hippos, Turku, Finland.
Record 1.47,6 Lahja was a talented trotter from the very beginning. He was put to the sulky as a yearling, but Chorin did not let him run yet. As a two-year-old, Lahja trotted faster than many other older horses in Alahärmä. He became famous as a 5-year-old, when he was placed 3rd in the Vaasa races (sponsored by the state) with a record of 5:55,5 (3 km). As a 6-year-old, Lahja won the Great Hämeenlinna Stallion Prize (1000 marks) with his record 5:52. Hakola sold him to baronet Standertsjöld at the huge prize of 6000 marks. Lahja was much used at stud but his offspring tended to be small. His influence in the Finnhorse breeding has been considerable, and his name is to be seen in all present day pedigrees of Finnhorses.
