The stallion Merano was the son of the stallion Merlin, who was judged the best Holsteiner stallion in Germany in 1970. Merano granddam Rhea produced with the stallion Anblick the mare Venezia who won the Individual Bronze Medal (with Joseph Neckerman on board) and Team Silver in the 1972 Olympics. A Merano daughter, Valleta IV produced Calvero V who won the Individual Silver Medal in show jumping at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He was voted Best Horse at the World Equestrian Games in 1998, and was named number one in the world three times by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. A Merano stallion son, Magical, has offspring that are proving to be outstanding competitors in various hunter divisions. One of Magical sons, Touch of Magic, was champion of the 3- and 4- year old Hunter divisions held recently at Upperville, VA. Another Magical son, Sam Brown, was the Reserve Champion in the same show and divisions. There are many offspring of Merano who are outstanding competitors in all disciplines - dressage, jumping and eventing.
