This horse was the first palomino Thoroughbred to come to national attention in the USA
(although, of course, far from the first one to exist), and because of the publicity he
generated, the Jockey Club made his breeder provide additional testing and proof of
parentage above and beyond what was normally required at the time. (Although blood-typing
for parentage verification was not required of all horses yet, it did exist, and they
could ask anyone to do it if they chose to.) Once they got enough proof to satisfy them,
he was registered. He was put in training as a 2yo and was said to have good speed, but
when he was sold at a 2yo sale the buyer was specifically looking for a hunter type
stallion prospect, so he never raced. Milkie was an excellent hunter/jumper sire on the
East Coast through the 1970s and 80s. Died in 1990 of old age.
