splash overo As a filly, she could not be reg with the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) because she had too much white on her. The American Paint Horse Association(APHA) reg rules declared that the filly did not have enough white to be reg with them. Horn decided to name the horse after the trouble. Her owner, Bill Horn, named her Miss White Trash.
In 1970, Horn started training Miss White Trash as a reining horse, hoping to enter her in the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity. The event was one of the leading events for three-year-olds of the growing sport. Then another problem popped up. Contenders had to be reg in the AQHA, but they did not want Miss White Trash. To solve the problem, Horn began training her in cutting.
She did notlet him down. In the 1970 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity, Miss White Trash took fifth place out of 250 competitors. It was at this show that the people from the APHA took another look at the horse and decided that she could be reg with APHA after all. After showing successfully for five years as a cutting horse, the NRHA opened its registrations to non-Quarter Horses. Miss White Trash went on to win multiple NRHA Bronze Trophies and became an NRHA Hall of Fame inductee.
