Was the mount of Gen. Philip Sheridan throughout the Civil War; also known as 'Winchester.' Born sometime in the 1850s, most likely from 1858-1859; died in 1878, most sources saying he was either 19 or 20. Most sources agree that he was three years old when he became Sheridan's mount in 1862, which would make his birth year 1859
Was mounted after his death and is on display in the Smithsonian Museum.
Descended from the Morgan stallion Black Hawk.
