SOL REINA M, APPALOOSA,
| Color: blk
aka Sun Queen
Belived to be originally from the Don region of Russia. Chief Chelsea's granddam, Sol Reina, was born in the Don region of Russia and imported to Argentina in 1916. In 1919 she was accompanied to the United States by her groom, Carlos. Next, she was taken to Saskatchewan, Canada by her new owner. There she was bred to the few-spot stallion, Pharaoh, scion of the legendary Ghost Wind line, a tail-male descendant of old Nez Perce stock. Desert Night resulted from that mating. Desert Night would eventually sire a fancy leopard colt with black, chestnut and dun spots decorating his white hide. That colt, named Dancer's Rainbow, was a young foal when he and several other horses turned up missing and were presumed stolen. Many years later, Carlos happened upon a stallion named Chief Chelsea at Roy Wood's Oklahoma ranch. Wood, who had a "dubious" reputation, claimed to have purchased Chelsea from a horse trader, who had "found" him in a shipment of horses from Canada. Carlos was positive that the impressive leopard stallion was,"...the little one with the many colored spots." And though no one has ever proven this story, most breeders take it as truth.
