STOCKHOLMS AMERICAN STAR ch. H, THOROUGHBRED, 1822
| Color: ch Height: 15.2
(USA)
owned and raced by John Stockholm-Washingtonville, NY-7 miles from Chester, NY, where Van Kleeck was said to have dam of Fanny Cook. ASRv1p97 & MHR v1p191. Only one problem. He raced and stood there from about 1828-33; not in 1840s when this mare was foaled. Stockholm's American Star was a running horse, not a trotter. He never sired any other horse of note, either runner or trotter and is not listed in the American Stud Book. Wallace's Stud Book gives only the sire as Duroc and does not trace his dam, same with Battell's American Stallion Register. For years he was credited as sire of Seeley's American Star but Battell disproved this MHR v1 p348. Seeley's American Star stood at Goshen just 5 miles away when the dam of Fanny Cook was foaled.
