Imported to Connecticut 1766, age 4, by CT Secreatary of State George Wyllys. Advertised by Nickoll in 1770 as Barb from England. Sold c1775 to Colonel Lindsey of Virginia, & taken south.
Wallace disagrees with the date Ranger transferred to Howard. He says Howard announced his purchase "The imported Arabian Horse called the Ranger to stand at his stable the season of 1778" (Wallace 1897, 94). That means Ranger was not taken south until the season 1779 or later.
