Pedigree in Wallaces American Stud-Book [1867], vI, p968. Jenny Lind, named for the famous Swedish Nightingale. She had been taken to New Orleans to race, and unfortunately had a stall accident that left her a cripple. She was sold for a low price to a man named McHatton, lessee of the prison at Baton Rouge. He sent Jenny Lind to Woodburn Farm and it was there she had three fillies by old Pilot Jr. One of the fillies supposedly died, and the other two were sent to McHatton at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The fillies were turned out on the prison common ground to basically fend for themselves and looked so scraggly that the prisoners named one of them Tackey.
