Note: There is some confusion about who his dam was. The reason is that there is some evidence that there were actually 2 stallions sired by Peter McCue named John Wilkins. This one, and another one, foaled in 1912, whose name was later changed to John Wilkes that was out of a Pid Hart mare called Big Alice. See AQHA Legends Volume 2 Chapter 5.
AQHA records spell his name as John Wilkins but it was also spelled Wilkens.
