Tonto Bars Gill was bred by the Gill Cattle Company in Arizona and out of Tonta Gal, by Clabber. As a three-year-old, Tonto Bars Gill won seven races, including the Rillito Handicap, Prep Dash and Torpedo Stakes. He was the 1952 AQHA Racing Champion Three-Year-Old Colt.

He was owned by Charles Loughridge and stood at the Charlie Horse Ranch in Pena Blanca, New Mexico for a stud fee of @,000 in 1962. Later owned by Chet Robertson .
Sired 582 AQHA registered foals with 342 performers.
He sired many great horses, but is best known as the sire of two-time champion Tonto Bars Hank.
