br. by George Veira. I recently read a paragraph in a 1950's issue of The Morgan Horse magazine indicating that Duke had recently been named the grand champion Morgan stallion of the Stanislaus County, California fair in what appeared (on paper) to be a pretty good class which included the stallion Trilson (sire of Dapper Dan and Muscleman). However, Duke's better claim to fame was that he was the sire of the well regarded Morgan stallion California King, sire of 84 registered Morgans. Both Duke and his sire Winnemucca had just a couple of offspring. How would they be remembered as sires if they'd had more opportunities? R. Manley, 4/29/18
