AKA Amazon, Amazonia Wallace's ATR, 1871, Vol.1, p.60 says: foaled about 1810, got by a son of imported MESSENGER. But little is known of the origin of this famous mare; On a certain occasion, Mr. B. T. Kissam, a dry goods jobber of New York, was on an excursion near Philadelphia, and he bought her out of a team, and, at the time, she was represented to be by a son of imported MESSENGER. He afterwards sold her to his uncle, John Tredwell, of Long Island [Salisbury Place, Queens County], and she and her mate SOPHONISBA made a remarkable team; She was coarse and plain, but had very fine trotting action, and produced ABDALLAH.
