Despite being said to have had a limited mare book, he sired three good stallion sons:- 1) Blunderbuss (sire of the 4th dam of the top class racehorse Black Chance, King's Plate winner Phantom and good class racehorse Moorcock; and sire of Darcy's Royal Mare, ancestress of Highflyer); 2) [Old] Merlin, winner of a famous match at Newmarket, immortalised in song, and the sire of the important broodmare sire [Bethell's] Castaway; and sire of the Foundation Mares of Families 26 and 55; and 3) Darcy's Woodcock [probably the same horse as Davill's Woodcock], the sire of Brown Woodcock, an early mare in Family 2; Old Montague Mare (dam of outstanding racehorse Sedbury); and the Foundation Mares of Families 18 and 62
Bustler also sired a number of important mares, which are the Foundation Mares of Family 24, 35 and 44.
