Iwonka III (1936–1960), a chestnut mare bred at Kraśnica Stud in Poland, stands as a remarkable example of how a seemingly modest mare can shape the Arabian breed across continents. Descending from the influential Mlecha dam line through her dam Łysa, Iwonka was closely related to the outstanding race mare Sabellina, winner of the Polish Derby and Oaks. This connection highlights the strength and versatility of her female family, known both for racing excellence and breeding power. Displaced during World War II and later exported to the United States, Iwonka III continued her legacy as a broodmare. While her son Iwonkatez had some influence, it was through her daughters that she made history. Balalajka, foaled in Poland, became the dam of Bandola, Bachantka and the legendary Bask++ one of the most influential Arabian sires of the modern era, whose descendants dominate performance pedigrees worldwide. Another daughter, Isonda, carried the line into post-war Germany, becoming a foundation mare at Achental Stud and contributing to the rebuilding of European Arabian breeding. Through these daughters, Iwonka III’s legacy spans racing, performance, and international breeding—securing her place as a quiet but powerful cornerstone of the modern Arabian horse. She continued to make huge contributions to American breeding through grand-get such as El Magato and Bask-Tez. 👉Read more on that exceptional mare: https://ahdb.eu/public/focus/1128 📷Photo: archive (restored) Photo from breezyacresarabians.com http://www.rahba.org/foto/horses/path/29/9f/52/220b18f0b4074eac45ac964d053c67b8.jpg Breeder: Kraśnica Stud, Poland,
