Please compilers, learn the date of breed creation. The Saddlebred did not exist as a separate breed until 1935. The parent breed is the American Saddle Horse, a.k.a. Plantation Horse, Saddler. the 1891 register was American Saddle Horse Register, not Saddlebred. The breed originated in Virginia and was being performance gait tested by 1817.
Cockspur RH 1837, by Cock Robin RH (by Janus TB out of a Celer mare)
his dam was a Hotspur RH daughter (by Timoleon Hotspur RH out of a Sir Archy TB mare). Her dam was a fast racking roan saddle mare. (see Famous Saddle Horses vol. 2, 1942 pp.20-21)
