The Albatross mare took a 2:00.1f mark at Scioto Downs as a 2-year-old, but broke a bone after winning her only two starts. She earned only $1,800. In 1988 Miss Elvira delivered a bay colt that was destined to make her famous. Artsplace, a son of Abercrombie, vaulted to national prominence with his world record 1:51.1f win in the Breeders Crown as a 2-year-old at Pompano. As a 4-year-old he whirled through 16 starts unbeaten and earned Horse of the Year honors. He left the track with earnings of more than $3 million. Artsplace has been ranked as the leading Standardbred sire several times.
