PELHAMS GREY ARAB gr. H, BARB, 1712
| Color: gr
Pelhams Grey Arab was rumored to have been imported by Sir Robert Sutton from Constantinople, but the source is questionable, and Thoroughbred historian C. M. Prior was unable to find a date of importation. It is more probable that he was bred by Charles Pelham of Lincolnshire is a son of the Curwen Bay Barb.
After being sold to a Mr. Alcock, Pelhams Grey Arab’s name was changed to Alcock Arabian. He was a full brother to Wynns Spot, who was also bred by Charles Pelham of Lincolnshire. He was also a full brother to the mare Clumsy.
While standing at stud Alcock Arabian sired:
Crab (1722) He was bred by Charles Pelham of Lincolnshire
(Ancaster) Gentleman (b h 1723)
Alcock Arabian mare (gr f 1724), produced by Flash (Curwen Bay Barb). She produced three good racehorses who were also sires, the grey Dismal in 1733, (Duttons) Whitefoot in 1734, and Trifle in1738.
The Alcock Arabian being a son of the Curwen Bay Barb, both Crab and the Alcock Arabian mare were closely inbred, the mare being out of a daughter of the Curwen Bay Barb, and Crab being out of a grand-daughter.
Alcock Arabian was acquired by Peregrine Bertie, (2nd) Duke of Ancaster, in 1722 who had a stud in Lincolnshire
