| Gykes Black Horse was brought over to England from Ireland by Andrew Moulden around the same time as he brought the Long Mane Mare. Andrew Moulden sold him to Gykes (Michael Gargett) He is a brother to Eddie Alcocks Black Horse.
He was bred by Martin Cawley who was in North Co.Dublin at the time.
He was a sire known for putting incredible legs (conformation) on his progney and breeders he knew and remembered him (a top stallion, he stayed in the Durham / Newcastle area the remainder of his life) for the quality of his legs but will often remark that he has an ugly head. The public story go's that he broke his back serving a mare which is true but it's not the whole story
