Carneval, was a seal brown stallion by the Selle Francais import Cor de la Bryere, and out of the mare Assa (foaled 1964) by “the most important of all sires,” and the best of the Achill line of stallions, Farnese. Carneval was born in 1974 and approved in 1976 as the champion stallion of the approval, the same year that Calypso II was approved. He was 16.2 ¼ hands high and his bonits were 8677789. His stamm was 104A. In his 100-day test he received an 89 for dressage and 123 for jumping with an overall score of 106. He was stationed at Sollvittfeld from 1977 to 1980 and then sold into Belgium where he died in 1985. According to Dr. Rossow, in his Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed, he was an…”Important sire. Wide and deep with good riding horse qualities. Less than ideal topline. Shoulder attachment and loin could be better. Elegant neck carriage, good face. Strong bone mildly tied in below the hock. Fabulous, energetic mover.” As a producer he says, “Carneval out produces himself. Many State Premium mares and competition horses. Offspring are distinguished by large frames and springy gaits in which one could ask for a little less tenseness and greater use of the back. Most dominant trait is their enormous jumping ability.” Carneval is the sire of five approved stallions in Germany. Though he died young, in his age group he ranks 56th with an index of 121 (reliability 86%) for jumping. In 1996 his offspring had prize money earnings of DM 485,619—and that is based on only four years at stud in Germany.
