(GER), Herodotus
AKA HERODOTUS; Breeder: Graf Plessen auf Ivenack, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany; HERODOT lived until he was 35 years old. He was stolen by Napoleon's army, but was taken back to Prussia in 1814/1815 by imperial order; Graf Plessen bought MORWICK BALL (*1780) and HERODIAS in England 1785; he died 1828, Graf Plessen 1829; His pedigree is very, very mysterious - HERODIAS is a colt!! - attested by General Stud Book! Many of Graf Plessen's horses, particularly mares that he bought as Thoroughbred in England, are not recorded in the Stud Books. In the German stud books it said: not proven thoroughbred! MORWICK BALL and HERODIAS and their descendants are a very big problem in the hippological genealogy! Regardless of this, HERODOT was authoritative in every respect for the breed, even if the pedigree of his father is so unclear.
Many Ivenacker mares who are not listed in the General Stud Book have the same problem.
