Robert E. Lee's horse Foaled in 1857 in Blue Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier County, VA (now West Virginia) Purchased by Lee 1862 When Robert E. Lee died of a heart attack in 1870, Traveller was led behind the hearse; Traveller died the following year. Today he is buried outside the Lee Chapel at Washington and Lee University.
