The rabicano gene is entirely seperate from the roan gene, though it does create a striking pattern of white hairs that is similar to roan. It is usually manifested as a sprinkling of white hairs radiating out from the horses flank, as well as white hairs at the base of the tailbone, sometimes extending into a white-topped tail. The rabicano color originated from the Arabian horse breed and appears to be tied to the sabino gene. The dam, Benlea Deilein, is a liver chestnut showing the sabino gene in its most minimal form as a wide blaze and tall stockings.
