Poland
In 1939, Russia invaded Poland from the east. Poland tried to evacuate the horses of the state stud Janow Podlaski but learned Germany was advancing from the south. There was nothing to do but to wait to see who got to Poland first. It was the Russians. Russia carried off almost all of the horses from the state stud Janow Podlaski. Elegantka was one of them. But during Janow Podlaski\'s desperate flight, the little babies could not keep up and were left at some of the farms along the way. Elegantka\'s yearling son Wielki Szlem was one of these. When Germany arrived, they scoured the countryside for these fine horses, offering rewards. In this way, many were recovered including Wielki Szlem.
