SKOWRONEK was one of the greatest Arabian sires of all times and was credited with contributing more to the greatness of the modern Arab than any other individual of the breed. Bred by Count Potocki at the Antoniny Stud in Poland, he was the product of a desert bred sire, IBRAHIM, crossed onto a very old Polish dam line and one of the best of the Antoniny mares, JASKOLKA. JASKOLKA’s name means “The Swallow” and SKOWRONEK’s name means “The Lark”. He was bought by Lady Wentworth and was one of the very few Arabians with no Crabbet ancestors which Lady Wentworth used for breeding. SKOWRONEK was the only one to become a part of Lady Wentworth's long-term breeding program. In the US, the most famous concentrated SKOWRONEK line breeding and inbreeding programs were Alice Payne's (through *RAFFLES) and Dan Gainey's (through FERSEYN).
