ASTRIDGE ARABIAN . C, ARABIAN, ~1733
| Ashridge Arabian
Erroneously listed in the GSB as the Astridge Arabian. Covered mares in the early 1740s, a daughter produced the grey racehorse Lizard (1750 by Ancaster Starling). Probably owned by the Second Duke of Bridgewater, who died in 1748. He was succeeded by his brother, Francis, an early member of the Jockey Club and owner of the mare who produced the racehorses Stripling, Grasshopper, and Spectre, but is better known as the builder of the Bridgewater canals. Their father, the first Duke, owned Ashridge Ball (by Leedes), a famous racehorse of the late teens.
