Bred by Harm Thormählen, Langenhals, Germany. Died 1999.
While it is recorded that Capitol’s sire Capitano is out of Retina and Corporal, this may not be the case. On paper Corporal was the sire of Capitano, but doubts about the pedigree kept surfacing. Capitano was a grey who dominantly passed on his colour and is said to have produced only a few chestnuts. But homozygous greys usually (SEE EDIT) have two grey parents. At the time in question, a young grey stallion, Vase’s son, Grand Vicar, a brother of Folia, had been frolicking with Retina. If the suspicions are true, then Capitol would be the product of intensive in-breeding and Ramzes’ blood would be in his genes via Retina & Vase and a 3th time via his grand-sire.
EDIT: a homozygous grey can ONLY produce greys. So if Capitano produced a few chestnuts he can NEVER be homozygous. Corporal was bay so he couldn't pass a G or g allele. To be homozygous grey both parents MUST be grey & pass a G (not g) allele for Capitano to be GG (homozygous grey). 2 grey parents can produce 50% heterozygous (Ee), 25% homozygous (GG) or 25% not grey (ee). https://alicium.weebly.com/uploads/4/4/6/5/44652815/983856013.gif?200
