She foaled a Well Said colt at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 24th and developed signs of colic later that morning, succumbing while she was being transported to the emergency medical clinic. Cathedra was an accomplished racehorse winning $435,153 at two with 14 wins earning the O’Brien Two Year Old Filly of the Year Award in 1995. Her career earnings totaled $733,789 and she took a record of p,1:52.3s at three. As a broodmare Cathedra excelled beyond expectations producing 4 $500,000+ winners and two 1:50 performers. Two of her offspring earned O’Brien Awards in 2001 – Cathedra Dot Com (p,3,1:51m $1,520,487) for Three Year Old Pacing Filly of the Year and Western Shooter (p,2,1:50m $904,462 winner of Breeders Crown and Governor’s Cup) for Two Year Old Colt Pacer of the Year. She was inducted into the U.S. Harness Racing Living Hall of Fame in 2002 for her broodmare production and in 2004 was honored in Canada as Broodmare of the Year when her daughter Cabrini Hanover (p,2,1:51s $1,303,790) was chosen as O’Brien Award winner Two Year Old Pacing Filly of the Year. Cabrini Hanover subsequently earned the title of 2005 Dan Patch Three Year Old Pacing Filly of the Year in the U.S. with major wins in the Fan Hanover, Nadia Lobell, Bluegrass and Glen Garnsey Stakes that season. “She was just a lovely mare, she was truly special. She was a pleasure to be around. She had a wonderful disposition and she will be greatly missed by all of us here. She left us with what I consider the nicest foal she had during the time we owned her, a beautiful, smart Well Said colt who will be raised by a nurse mare. She has been buried next to Wendymae Hanover, the dam of Western Hanover,” commented farm manager Dr. Bridgette Jablonsky.
