Also called Crofts Bay Barb Hampton Court Cripple Barb. Cripple Barb was bred in the Hampton Court stud of Queen Anne. He was later given to Mr. Crofts. The General Stud Book notes that “he got some horses that could run a little, but was a bad stallion.” He sired eight known foals. Neither of his two colts were used as sires. His fillies faired slightly better, namely with Mr. Elstob’s Cripple Barb Mare (1710c), when she produced Cartouch. He sired another filly, who produced Hodge’s Centurion (h 1725), sired by Conyers Arabian Colt. His filly Lusty Thornton (sor m 1710c), became a foundation mare.
Cripple Barb’s sire Chillaby Barb is from unknown lineage. Same is said for the sire of Moonah Barb Mare’s sire and her dam are is unknown.
