FAMILY NUMBER SIX . M, THOROUGHBRED,
| Published reports document at least three mtDNA haplotypes in family 6 representing three separate founder mares. Contemporary descendants of Cream Cheeks have a completely different haplotype than that found in the majority of Betty Percival's contemporary descendants, indicating that the dams of those mares, while both by Spanker, were from two different matrilineages. The third haplotype has been reported in the few samples tested from family 6e, indicating an error somewhere in the stud book record of this branch. The haplotype identified in the remains of Hyperion is not completely consistent with the 6e haplotype. However, it does not necessarily represent a separate founder. There is no published information about mtDNA haplotypes in descendants of Milbanke's Bald Peg who may be misplaced in family 6.
