bred by Earl of Godolphin; was sold to Thomas Ovington and then to Captain Leonard Hartley; her dam was bred by Captain Rider and was the own sister to the noted BALD GALLOWAY; The Turf Register and Sportsman and Breeder's Stud Book, 1803, p.83; The General Stud Book 1793, p.294 says: born 1731 (???) sometime *1721 and it's the dam of the two HARTLEY MARES; No own entry with offspring, probably she had only this two mares (no years of birth, no names): LITTLE HARTLEY MARE/by Bartlet's CHILDERS and LARGE HARTLEY MARE/by his BLIND HORSE; both p.107; Story and Problems of pedigree: Sporting Magazine, 1840, p.385-387 (FLYING WHIGG/Whig); G.S.B. 1891, Vol.1, p.87 says: *1715 (and: The age of this dam was wrongly given in previous editions!)
