(Ursus x Gomara) 1931 grey stallion
bred by Ybarra tail female to Farja.
Gandhy was purchased by the National Stud in 1935. A prepotent sire of the first magnitude, his influence had transcendental impact upon the entire Spanish family. He was particularly successful when bred to the ‘Vera’ mares. Widely considered as the most influential sire during a fifty-year period, his 38 sons include Xamir, Tetuan, Aboukir, Habiente, and Damasco III. However, his two most important sons were Malvito and Maquillo, both of whom were the senior sires at the National Stud during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Among Gandhy’s 43 daughters are such notable producers as Lambrada (x Escala) chestnut 1948; Imelina (x Verana) chestnut 1945; Extranjera (x Uganda) chestnut 1939; and the legendary Galatife (x Varacruz) grey 1943.
