Race Record: 3/18(14-1-3) 2X AP+8 The note on the photograph "Imported to Hungary 1931" refers to Grand's paternal grandsire Kuhailan Zaid RAS (1923), who was imported from Arabia to Babolna, Hungary, in 1931 by Bogdan Zientarski and Carl Raswan. Grand's sire, Kuhailan Abu Urkub (1935), was imported from Hungary to Gumniska Stud, Poland, in 1939. Grand was foaled there in 1944. In 1945, the Germans ordered the evacuation of Gumniska to Poznan. Unfortunately they were caught between retreating Germans and advancing Russians, and most of the horses, including both of Grand's parents, were killed. Thankfully yearling Grand and his 1944 half-brother Gabor survived to continue the Kuhailan Zaid sire line. Grand stood at stud at Michalow after the war, siring two notable stallions used at stud, Mokan and Kord, plus *Dokhailan, an in-utero export to USA. None of them left any sons in Poland. The line, known for excellent performance horses with very good tempers and longevity, has since died out in Poland, but there are still a few remaining stallions in the US. History excerpted from Athena Arabians' excellent articles about the Kuhailan Zaid OA and Kuhailan Afas OA lines. Owner: Michalów Stud, Poland Breeder: Gumniska Stud, Poland
