born in Germany at (Stud) Gestüt von Herrn Michael auf Gut Brohm, Grossherzogtum Mecklenburg-Schwerin; died 1821; Alois Koch: Encyklopädie der gesamten Thierheilkunde und Thierzucht, 1888, Vol.5, p.89/90 (Ihlenfeld, von Michael); This pedigree is pure fantasy!!! A frequently occurring problem in early German thoroughbred breeding. (So the dams and sires of Graf Maltzahn von Plessen-Ivenack, Mecklenburg-Schwerin.). Whether it was deception by the seller can only be guessed at. In the case of many horses, there is no indication of the G.S.B. in the early German Stud Books made. It is then printed: bought as thoroughbred in England. GROSVENORs apparent father is only documented in the General Stud Book 1793, Vol.1, from 1766 to 1771 and only had 9 foals, last foal 1772. After that his trail is lost. It is noticeable that Lord Grosvenor did not use him for breeding after 1771. GROSVENOR had never an one entry, because the first book was printed in 1842.
