Honpolgar 4 was imported to the U. S. as reparations with the Remount Service after World War II. At the remount they were very impressed with the Hungarian stallions. Honpolgar was trained at Fort Robinson and assigned to Jim Edwards of Butte, Montana as a Remount Stallion, then purchased by Jim when the horses were sold. At the Edwards Ranch he became a very special friend and pet. The Edwards named him Humphrey after the cartoon character Humphrey Pennyworth who was always hungry. He was located by Margit Sigray (later Baroness Bessenyey) and was used at stud by both Bitterroot Stock Farm and Cooksleys. At the Cooksleys he was also used for Ranch work. Honpolgar 4 had a beautiful head and a long free moving stride. He was very personable and loved people. Honpolgar 4 died peacefully sleeping on his favorite hill in Nebraska at age 19. He was the only imported ( by the Remount ) Hungarian stallion, that was able to be located and survived long enough to be used on the Hungarian mares purchased by Margit Sigray Bessenyey and Steve and Wanda Cooksley. So you will find him in all the original Bessenyey and Cooksley pedigrees. He was the sire of 27 registered Hungarian offspring including the stallions; Kallo, Pallo, Prince, Miklos, and Big John. http://www.ovhhf.com/honpolgar_15.htm Owner: Jim Edwards, Butte, MO Breeder: Kisbéri Magyar Királyi Állami Ménes
