Lath, a bay colt foaled in 1732 by the Godolphin Arabian out of Roxana (by Bald Galloway), was the Godolphin Arabian's first foal after Hobgoblin refused to cover Roxana. Bred by Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin, Lath became a top racehorse, winning major races at Newmarket, Marlborough, and elsewhere, including a 1000-guinea sweepstakes in 1737. His success helped establish the Godolphin Arabian as a leading sire in 1738, 1745, and 1747, producing champions like Cade, Regulus, and Blank. Lath was hailed as “one of the best horses that appeared at Newmarket since the time of Childers.” http://www.bloodlines.net/TB/Bios2/Lath.htm Breeder: Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin
