Aust. Stud Book volume 2, page 426: "Hector, or Old Hector. A very fine bay horse, standing nearly sixteen hands high, imported into N.S.W. from India by Mr. R. Campbell, of Sydney, in 1806. His origin is uncertain. He has been styled an English-born thoroughbred, an Indian stud bred horse, and was advertised in Sydney about 1822 as a pure Persian. His commanding appearance, and the remarkable gameness and bottom of his stock, render it unlikely that he was an Indian stud bred horse, of which the attributes are usually precisely opposite; whilst his size discredits the announcement respecting his pure Persian origin. We believe that Hector was an English horse, exported to India, and thence imported to N.S.W." A successful sire died December 1829
