AKA Field Mare; AKA Old Poll; AKA Old White Mare; AKA John Field Mare. Bred by John Field of Springfield VT. Gray, little, spavin-capped, hipped; 40.63%; 3 crosses to Justin Morgan. Nervous, strong and a good jumper. John Field, a farmer in Springfield VT owned her mother and bred her to a stallion from Chester VT. She was born in April 1830. At 4 years she was sold to Fredrick Leland. She proved to be too skittish for Leland and he traded her to Rufus Rising. She was later sold to Col. William H. Cook, Ticonderoga, NY; and then to J.W. Holcomb, Ticonderoga, NY. She had many foals and died in 1851 while in-foal. Dam of Ethan Allen, 2:25 1/2. (From: The Morgan Horse and Register, Volume 1 By Joseph Battell 1894, ps.176-186). But there is not spoken of dam POLL, is only said: GRAY MARE, bred by John Field!!!
