Palouse country of the Nez Perce in Idaho when the little Appaloosa mare Run Around gave birth to a son by the blue-blooded thoroughbred stallion Double Reigh. To also honor Run Around’s Hall of Fame sire, the great Apache, the new foal was named Apache Double. The year was 1969. He grew up in the birthplace of the Appaloosa breed, and over the course of his long life became a breed-shaping member of the Hall of Fame himself.
