one of racings greatest pacing mares, was humanely put down July 8, 2001 after surgery to address a chronic laminitis problem.

She had foundered more than 2 years ago, and had long suffered with the condition. She was recovering from an operation to combat the rotation of her coffin bone when she struggled and suffered a broken sesamoid. The decision was then made to have her put down.

Shady Daisys speed and determination on the track made her a racing favorite, as she paced her way to two divisional titles. She took her 1:51 record at age 3, and equaled it as a 4-year-old.

She raced through age 7, with 53 wins in 142 starts. She retired to her birthplace of Shadyside Farm, the Ohio facility of her co-owners, Tammy Bauslaugh and Ron Jackson, who owned the mare with Dr. Louis Bauslaugh.

3 foals carry on Shady Daisys great tradition. Her first offspring, the Jennas Beach Boy colt Daisys Boy, sold for $300,000 and has taken a 1:53.2 mark this year as a 3-year-old. Her next filly by that sire, Shes A Daisy, never raced. Her 2000 foal by Life Sign is the colt Shady Life.

It was while foaling Shes A Daisy that Shady Daisy suffered a retained placenta, which ultimately brought on the laminitis.

Ron Jackson and Ed Mullinax bought Shes A Daisy with the hope she will continue where her mother left off. She is now in foal to Dragon Again.

Shady Daisy was buried by the horse barn at Shadyside Farm.
