E.-C. = Imported No. to Germany/Union-Club; bred by Graf Nicolaus (Miklós) Eszterházy, jun.; bred and born auf Schloss Nordkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen; came to Tótis/training (now Tata Tavaros, Komitat Komárom-Esztergom, Hungary/ north-west of Budapest, Kastell Esterházy); see EsterhazyWiki - Stronzian-Story (German); 2nd Oesterreichisches Derby 1884; won Deutsches Derby 1884 in Hamburg. Esterhazy was so excited that he couldn't go to Hamburg and hoped and feared that the telegram from Hamburg about the outcome of the race might be a salvation. He had wagered a fortune, including the castle, on his racing bet. It could easily have meant his end and the end of horse breeding... Hours later, the long-awaited telegram finally came: Stronzian won easily! This victory was celebrated extensively throughout the village of Nordkirchen.
