Equerry von Dassel located him in Landgestüt and he was used particulary in mount breeding. He was symmetrically built; had a regular, vigorous movement and big size. His daughters in Trakehnen were interesting: they had beautiful head and neck, marked withers and good movement. These from Gurdszen were average.
Vorwärts was one of the most successful sires in Trakehnen. In 1873 he received 1st prize for a mount sire. He was heavily used due to remarkable, regular exterior and gaits. His sons: Flügel and Pless were expected to bring his good features; Principal was a sire 1873-75.
